Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!Â
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper! Â
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

Like a pencil sketch, perhaps a 2B. Nicely fiddled.

I usually try to mix up styles in my shorter comment sessions, and here I am doing another drawing-like piece. Well at least this is via filters rather than physical media. But I couldn't resist. First, on the flickr photo, if this is near your home, it's really lush. It has some of the architectural forms (walls, posts, etc) we have in my neighborhood, but with so much more relaxed nature, and sans all the high buildings. I think I could fall in love with this area very easily. (Our suburbs, along the lake, look more like this than the city does.) In this shot, you've not only created edges, but lots of stipple, and lots of open areas too---though filled with dots and little colonies, they feel more open than the darker areas. It almost feels like an inverted shot, where white-is-black/black-is-white. But it's not. The two women seem very wrapped up in their worlds, a separate world between them. While the surroundings are rich---but, because of your liberal whites and light hues, the surrounding is very 'open' for them. And I swear there's a reindeer back there. Probably the only person who sees it, but it's a reindeer, I'm sure of it. (I didn't know you had reindeer in your area!) It actually has elements of architectural drawing, because of the outlining; and it's open and quite articulate. And is that a bus back there? A really fine job, Andrea. You always find new things in whatever you do.
