Description
Greetings Folks (Hi Mate),
Yesterday, for the first time I went to possibly THE most important place in Motor racing History..
Brooklands..
It is Unique, and I can use that word safely.. It was the world FIRST purpose built motor racing circuit in...1907!!!! Yep, you did read that correctly.. Furthermore, so far ahead was its thinking that it had banked circuits built into it!
It was deadly fast!
Records were smashed almost every week, every driver and team who was anybody was based here!
(I'll come to that later).
Furthermore.... At Brooklands in the middle of the HUGE circuit was an airfield, a fellow called Mr A.V. Roe set up shop, followed by Vickers and others..
Anyway what you are looking at is the original clubhouse built in 1907, and those cars out front are hill run cars.. Fancy a go? The run was open! (£2!!!)
On the left are the racing team sheds, just out of shot of a Mr Malcolm Campbell's one!
And so much more is here!
Oh and the London Bus Museum is here.. lol
Enjoy
Rob

Lucifers trousers !!... not THE London Bus Museum!!... Famous place, well if you put motor racing, AVRo, Vickers and Malcom Cambell on one site it's not going to be run of the mill is it... but London buses......just adds a cherry on the top :-) LoL!! Too cool mate, I'm sure you have many gems reveal....can't wait.

Thanks so much for this Rob I've never been there but it is on my list of places to visit. I did have a book on the history of Brooklands, I'll have to dig it out again ;-) As Neil points out, so much history to see there, and I do have a soft spot for London buses.

The Brit equivalent of the Indianapolis brickyard!

Great mate. James May did a good show on it and made the track out of a huge Scalextric.

Lucifer's trousers? What ever happened to just plain old blimey? Cool capture of the stately ornate edifice dedicated to racing, mate.
