Description

"The beauty of the Eason Memorial Chapel, which stands on Chapel Hill in Pine Lake Cemetery, lies in the simple and beautiful lines of its English Gothic design. The plans for the chapel were prepared by Architects Allen & Sons and the bulding was erected by Larson-Danielson Construction Co., a local contracting firm, It is made from Beford, Indiana oolitic limestone and is a 48.5 feet by 25 feet with a cross at the top of the tower 37 feet from the ground line. It was dedicated on December 9, 1912, in memory of Seth Eason, an early settler, member of the Hall, Weaver & Co. Bank, and President of The Pine Lake Cemetery Board of Trustees. It may be used by lot owners for memorial services." - source: La Porte Indiana and its Environs (Published by La Porte county historical society.) Many places other than the historical society book and the cemetery's website use the date 1916 - including some other history books I have. Sometimes they say it was built in 1916 rather than dedicated so I believe that is the difference and it was dedicated 4 years before it was built - but sometimes they say dedicated 1916 :P Other history books also note Seth was a farmer, which wasn't mentioned in the above info, and I saw some records of him nominated for many various local offices, so he probably held some other titles besides Trustee of the board... but I gave up looking through the not exactly conveniently searchable thousand page tomes at a certain point so I can't say for sure. ;) Pine Lake Cemetery: thumb_2609669.jpg Looks best zoomed full size. Added some information about the cemetery itself to the post of that photo, so even if you looked at it yesterday when posted, you might want to click the link to that in description above - if interested.
