Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper!
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

Your talent will never cease to amaze me, I can't draw a straight line, I use a camera for my drawings hehe! I like the different directional strokes of your delicious pens.

I'll bet it was! (fun that is) It saddens me that you are no longer in business. There is so much you produce that would brighten any home.

well I'm only back for 2 comments per gallery today, and as always the choices are tough because there are so many pieces I've not commented on. So I'll have to give my best on two for right now. I saw this nearly the minute it went up, and loved it. I immediately looked up "fineliners" btw---I have some blacks and reds, but that's all. I decided to get some at last, and try a little of this. (We used black fineliner for sketching, and I also used it for architectural drawing, and I loved the resistance it gave and how the inks stayed moist even when the tip had been exposed for long periods.) Anyway---you've made a series of vivid cross-sections out of a photograph! With so many different treatments and textures. It's almost a geological map, chock full of visual info. (With a Key, one could make this a map of just about anything.) Your innate sense of texture contrast is keen as always, as is your color sense, being vivid and contrasting. And you separate areas by hue and native texture just as you do with your postwork---ie, following the natural "isobars" that color and texture make in nature. It's a segmented piece, but it all sings and dialogues together, like a jazz dance. And the effect is of a huge cross-section of real complexity, with depth and discernible forms mixed with jazzy abstraction. Terrific, Andrea. Always an event when you post another drawing. You know those dessert trays they have in restaurants---where they have all these pastries and fruits on one tray, and you're supposed to "choose"? Well this is like a visual dessert tray. I'll take one of no. 6, two of no. 9, hold the whipped cream on no. 12 (at my age, gotta watch the fats), and gimme lots of 14 and 19. (Fugget it---I'll take the whole freakin' tray.) I love this.
