Description

The domed building is the Institut de France, which houses five academies (most of which were founded in the 17th & 18th centuries) that define themselves as "Protector of Arts, Literature and Science". I think everyone knows what that other structure is... Please zoom.

What's amazing about the Eiffel Tower is that, while it was built in the late 1800s as a monument to the new modern aesthetic, it has a certain grace, an almost 'lacy' quality that makes it fit in with the older structures in Paris as well. At least from pictures. (I've never been to Paris, and I openly admit that what one feels, from photos, may be very different when witnessed in person.) In any case, the Tower is incandescent here, and is a beautiful mate to the dome of the Institut de France, which is much closer to us even though it's dwarfed by the tower. I like the deep dark of the ground level, and the deep golden browns of the sky, and all its light. A real illumined sunset shot. And the pairing of those two towers is wonderful. (Well, dome and tower.) The spacing helps bring them together. A very tantalizing, inviting urban sunset capture.
