To quote the late, great Spike Milligan in The Great McGonalgal Scrapbook; "There's nothing worn beneath the kilt. It's all in perfect working order."

I have also heard that the Scots wear nothing under the kilt. All is well-ventilated. LOL... A great shot. Thank you for your comment. By the way, Boppard is only about 150 kilometers away from Heidelberg and can be reached in one and a half hours on the highway.

Nothing. I had a Scottish landlord and landlady for a while when I lived in England. I was told the Scots were rather incontinent due to the cold, damp weather. This meant a distraction in battle, costing many their lives when needing to pee. So a clan leader decided an item or clothing open below would permit relieving the bladder without distraction. Then other clans hopped on the bandwagon. This resulted in adding the clan colors in tartan form in order to differentiate between friend and foe. When I lived in Montréal, the Royal Highland Black Watch had an annual service of laying up the colours (flags) in my church every April. It was COLD and windy outside. More than one kilt fluttered and showed what it was supposed to cover. So, from different sources, there's no item of clothing under a true kilt. Thanks for posting - a very nice photo. Looks like he's playing the pipes for money (begging?). Keep up the good work! :-)

Nothing but his pride, of course! Despite some other people's feelings (Ronnie!) I have a great fondness for men in kilts and all things Scottish...

Never argue with a people who wear clothing like this in a land covered with thistles that go up to your waist! The Germans didn't lol Neat shot mate Rob
