Description
In former times inside this tower was stored gunpowder. The tower was blown up with mines in 1693 by French soldiers in the Palatinate War of Succession.
From Wikipedia: When the French again reached the gates of Heidelberg in 1691 and 1692, the town's defenses were so good that they did not gain entry. On 18 May 1693 the French were yet again at the town's gates and took it on 22 May. However, they did not attain control of the castle and destroyed the town in attempt to weaken the castle's main support base. The castle's occupants capitulated the next day. Now the French took the opportunity to finish off the work started in 1689, after their hurried exit from the town. The towers and walls, that had survived the last wave of destruction, were blown up with mines.
The tower originally had a height of about 28 meters. In 1610 he was expanded to 42.50 meters. Today it stands as a ruin after all, still 33 meters high.
Thanks for viewing and for your interest.

Ich wäre nicht gerne in der Nähe gewesen, als der Turm auseinander brach, aber das ist natürlich ein super Motiv! Das zarte frische Grün ist ein toller Kontrast!

All that reminded me of the fireworks in the spring commemorating the burning of the castle... do you have any photos of the fireworks from across the river towards the castle?
Hendesse
No, unfortunately not. In summer there are again some fireworks, maybe I'll make some photos then. I've planned it since a long time, but never realized.

So einen ähnlichen Turm haben wir auch in der Stadt Luxemburg, und er wird "Der hohle Zahn" genannt!
