Description

These little balls, called oak galls, are a common occurrence caused when the tree reacts to non-stinging wasps laying their eggs on its leaves, branches, twigs or flowers. These insects inject a hormone into the plant tissue, causing it to grow abnormally and enclose the developing wasp larvae. Galls usually don't cause lasting harm, but heavy infestations can be fatal. http://homeguides.sfgate.com/rid-oak-galls-37878.html I just learned what these are when I did a net search. I also probably seen the smallest insect I have seen while taking this picture. it will be the next post

Very interesting, Richard. I used to see these on live oak trees but the were brown and more solid inside. Nicely found!
