Description
A view of the Chateau de Villandry & it's gardens. The gardens at Villandry are huge & varied & you can't really get a sense of their scale from a single regular photo, so I found this aerial photo (not mine) for those who might be interested: aerial photo of Villandry

Beautiful place. I bet that garden can feed quite a few people.. The aerial view almost doesn't even look real. Thanks for sharing.

picking up where I last left off...the aerial photo was stunning, these old 'landlords' created whole garden-cities. This photo is another fascinating glimpse of one of the many angles possible in estates like this. While you have a pathway leading right to the building, it leads not to a main door (it seems), but to a side, an 'end' section. And there's a huge planter in the pathway. And the gardens to either side create their own major world---so the sense of a "single pathway," which is the first thing we see, is broken by all these intruding shapes. It's a fascinatingly complex composition, in other words, much more complex that it appears at first sight. The sky is beautiful with all this, because those high (cirrus???) clouds just wisp away up there like a little ballet. I can't imagine what this is like in person, but I wonder if it's less imposing, just because you have real air and real space around you. From your photo, in any case, it has grace but it really feels packed. Just packed. Beautiful details and hues, and you caught the "cram" (if I can make that into a noun) through your vertical crop. I've been enjoying these huge castle and chateau shots immensely...in fact your whole France series has been dazzling for us.

Massive gardens in the aerial view and also a peak at the water feature that looks like a moat!
