Description

A watercolor made today from a photo I took in a town in Denmark 2008, called Ribe. Have a beautiful day. Weather here is absolutely wonderful. :-) And it seems, that typing and mouse work is what triggers the wrist problems. It doesnt like the way I have to turn the hand doing this, but drawing carefully and painting is makes it sit in a more natural way and that doesnt hurt so much. But I will do my best to comment to my favs anyway. Thank you for viewing and commenting :-)

This painting is absolutely beautiful. The lovely houses, the perspective and the colors, everything looks so harmonious. It's a joy to look at it and to discover all the details.

First, I love the paper. A very "stone-like" paper---in appearance. Must be a dark artist's paper. Your hues work very well with it: Lots of rich rust-reds, lots of lighter rust-reds which are almost peach in hue. And then your standout orange table-tops, the browns and greens for contrast, the red of the front sign (in the street in front of the place), along with the red of the flowers and someone's arm, etc. One can feel both formal and informal in this---your lines for the facade are strict, but they feel painted-on with a free hand, a 'jazzy' hand. And the piece goes backwards in the painting, but it also seems to be weighted back there, to give it a backward thrust. I love the umbrella and how it's almost transparent, and you put white on it to make it shine. And the free hand of those people; and that you didn't paint any others, but left the other chairs blank. (Ie, even if the original photo had no other people, you could've added them, but you didn't.) The overall feeling is warm and reddish, and it has the structure of a busy facade, but also the freedom of your hand. I love how you let the left-most area just exist as a blue blob, and left the area after that blank---so we could see the paper as part of the piece. I hope you keep doing these, whatever subjects grab you, because you're exploring and expressing, and moving between strict and jazzy, and the energy is very inviting (even the door, with your cross hatch and the black blob on top, invites us into it). It feels like a jazz improvisation while it's also an architectural piece. (I love how freely you painted "Drerdamner"??? The name above the right-most stall/window/whatever that is.) I"m so glad you can paint, with your wrist; I hope you do lots of these. I love this.
