Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper!
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

This went up right around the time I posted a pond shot of my own...people liked mine, but I gotta say it didn't have 'squat' compared to this. I still can't figure out all that's happening here...all I know is it's like an artist's installation, it has chrome like surfaces, or sheer acrylic; it has wonderful strands of plantlife weaving through the water; it has things popping up all over, breaking into the metallic and pure surface; that log or whatever it is about 2/3 of the way down splits the piece into two distinct sections...The bottom red leaves are beautiful against all the green. And the things in the water---are those tadpoles, fish, cones, or stems? I don't know which---are beautiful contrasts, as is that big branch on top, which casts a reflection right out of traditional Japanese prints. You spoke of tadpole watching---there's so much happening here, tadpoles are only part of what's going on. The way the plants break through that chrome surface is beautiful. Masterful, one of the most beautiful pond shots I've seen. Great work, Andrea.
