It's always amazing to see what a continuously running stream can do in a few hundred (thousand?) years... especially to this level. It's no Grand Canyon or Colorado River, but still impressive when the water level must be raised so high from a seemingly small stream.

there are many streams here the same way. where I was raised there was a creek at least a mile from our home and the water would flood all the way to the front fence from the rear. it dumped into a larger creek and the area where the two met could be 3-4 miles wide
