Description

A bit grainy, because of the difficult light (the hues are fuller, zoomed)

Virtually a winter scene, with the entire surface suggesting a flat cover of snow. Speaking of depth, there are tons of it depicted in this most remarkable high contrast pic of the highly detailed trees, sharply juxtaposed against the faint outline of the Chicago skyline. Kudos, Mark. You are so fortunate to have the luxury of four distinct seasons.

Congratulations to the images posted, its have much in common. This in my opinion is more expressive. Seem to see a world, that of the city as a community perceived detachment almost like you want to take shelter in a more simple and natural world represented by the trees. The scattered light and the trees with well marked silouette give an idea of anxiety and suffering, almost defeat. But there is also like in a dream some hope symbolized by the diffuse brightness. Sorry for my bad English, I still hope we both knew what I wanted to say !!!!!

What an image! I know that this is a photograph, but it has the quality of something drawn, or maybe a new kind of water-color; I can't decide which, but that's okay. It works. It works wonderfully! I love the composition as well; the sharp foregrounded trees, the fog-hazed structures of the city. The light dances, hardening and softening as if it's a living thing breathing or a heart, beating. That's what I love in art: the way that it becomes a living thing, if you let it; sometimes it's a matter of what a viewer brings to it, and it's also a matter of what the artist brings; in this way, I guess, all art is a collaboration of sorts, a kind of conversation between two (or more) people who may not be speaking in a literal sense, but they're still interacting. That's the main quality I sense in your work, this whole idea of interaction. it's really quite musical when you stop and think of it: musicians are doing their thing, but their listeners are a part of that activity, a part of that experience, and at times--especially in terms of the more popular forms of music--there's a kind of intimacy that develops between performer and audience (you can swim in that experience at places like Buddy Guy's Legends or any venue that specializes in live music and live audiences, and a little bit of scum and grime in the corners. It's like the Bulgarian reverence for crowded [moderately "stinky"] bars where you're swimming in body odor and "the warmth of one another" which is also something I experienced in Prague...a place where body odor isn't so much an issue of "stench" so much as the awareness that you're surrounded by people made out of meat: when I returned to Chicago, I had a hard time feeling connected with people because I couldn't smell that salty, warm, moist perfume of clean bodies busily performing metabolic functions. It's a visceral experience, and music embodies a part of that, and in many ways, images like this embody that...so I guess on another level it's that Bulgarian experience of a whole bunch of people making an amorphous mass of high-temperature humanity.) And don't let the clean feeling of this image fool you. It's clean and it's crisp, even the foggy bits, but it's far from sterile. The colors are cool, but not the mood. This rocks. It's one of my favorites.

OH yes, It is amazing how you can make the trees so clear and the wonderful city background so "far away" looking in the distance. The fog adds to that impression, I know, but I also know you helped it all to a higher level. You are a master in High key art. :)

Mark, while this may be a bit grainy it only adds to the effect and may be my favorite and the lake series so far. I love the way the fog dominates the atmosphere and makes the Chicago skyline resemble that of a magical kingdom. I have a strong feeling that you literally know every inch of this lovely lake shoreline.

Fascinating use of negative , color cyan , for the background, and the two trees in the foreground, put there, almost waiting for something to happen!!
