Description
it was up high and I knocked it off.
a small wasp with no stinger injects the tree with a substance that causes it to morph the bulb to encase the egg of the wasp.
if too many are on a tree it can kill the tree

Wasps have many ways of doing this, some even use other insects as the host apparently! Great shot.
