While "Rotschopf" means "redhead" (ich kenne ein bischen Deutsch, aber nur ein bischen...), your red, here, also indicates passionate, aflame, intense...out of this fiery crimson red, she stares through deep blue eye-shadows, and penetrating irises; and an almost jaundiced yellow, which to me communicates pain, anger, demand, need and so on. She 'entreats' us, and deeply. And those hues---your crimsons and yellows---are nearly opposites (ie, on the color wheel, "complementary"), creating great contrast and tension. You've created the feeling of a very private woman peering into us, entreating us, perhaps asking us to bear her anguish. And your crop makes her fill up the canvas, and puts her right in our gaze. Brilliant work, Ruth. Another profound portrait of the inner life of a human being.
