The recent tragic Earthquake in Nepal hit home for me because so many of the scenes on the News of the areas devastated by it are familiar, I had been there. Between 1985 and 1992 I worked as Systems Engineer on Airborne Geophysical Surveys International Seismic Exploration Crew. 1988 and 1989 we recorded 2,000 Kilometers of Seismic Data along the Terrai, the area along the Nepal/India Border.
We had Offices and a large Staff House in Kathmandu where we all stayed when entering and exiting Nepal during our two year World Bank Funded Exploration Project there. It's so sad to see so much ruin and tragedy in a Place and to a People you are personally familiar with. The Country and People of Nepal are amazing, of all the fantastic places across Africa and the Asia's I worked in that time Nepal was most memorable, I wish nothing but the best for the Nepali people.
Sagarmatha is the Nepali name of Mt. Everest...it means The forehead of the Sky or Mother of the World, depending on who you asked, they all fit though...the Himalaya's loomed visible over entire country no matter where you were...depending on Atmospheric conditions of course

Digging the textures, but not digging friends out of the rubble, such a tragedy that one can hardly comprehend the scale of so many lost lives and shattered families. My thoughts are also go out to the people of Nepal. ~Cheers~

What a magnificent image of view of the mountains Len. Sadly it was so damaged and damaging during the awful quake. My heartfelt feelings of sadness and prayers goes out to you Len as you deal with the loss of friends you acquired at your stay in Nepal. My thoughts and prayers are extended to the shattered families that are dealing with the deaths of family members, friends and neighbors in Nepal.
