Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!Â
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper! Â
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

Oh, I'm "all over" this photo! What amazing creatures. I'm not sure, but i don't think we have these in the Midwestern USA, not even as accidental exports from their native UK environs. We have longhorn beetles (though a couple that I saw insisted on being called the longhorn beatles...but that's a ramble for a different post.) I didn't even know that there were such moths as these! I love their colors and they have that nice "stealth moth" shape. Their antennae are impressive and probably highly sensitive as well. This is a brilliant shot, and I must google these creatures to learn more about them!

Here we have them too, Andrea, and I like them for the antennas. The little photo says it all. Thumb up!

Okay, I'm picking up from where I last left off, a few days back (I commented on everything from "Afternoon Nap" to "Weekend Dogwalk," with everything in between; and then I skipped ahead to that sonnet piece---"Poncho" ((I just looked it up!))---why am I telling you this? Because ebots have left the planet and are vacationing on Mars...maybe I'll drop you a note to tell you that I commented today too---not that my comments are a major priority, but just so you know I was 'here'...one of the drawbacks of commenting on earlier pieces is that the artist doesn't often look back there without ebots. Maybe I'll leave a 'scent', so your dogs can pick me up...) Anyway... First, it's an amazing shot just for the specie, they're amazing moths and I've never seen any with iridescent wings like that, and so gold! Also, those lonnnnnng antennae...I wonder what those were about, evolutionarily, as I've never seen an insect with such long feelers, that is, relative to their body size... But Andrea, the pic itself is beautiful. You've softened the leaves somehow, they look like carpeting almost. And the light is strongest in the uppermost leaves, leaving the middle leaves a bit darker, to contrast with these golden amber wings. It really is a beautiful shot, with real atmosphere and some deep shade. And you got two, almost in formation. Terrific shooting and treatment. You've been posting a series of amazing insect shots, of late (those recent shots of insects and arachnids attacking and eating each other are stunning...)
