I can imagine how the men at the oars felt. every time they slacked up some ugly monster would use a whip on them . outstanding use of components

The crews of Ancient and Medieval galleys were free and belonged to what might be called fraternal orders. After the Crusade Era, some slaves were used by the French, and draftees in such as Arab galleys.
