Description
When my two persimmon trees bloomed, the butterflies arrived and they feasted like crazy for two days. Well over half of the tiny blossoms dropped to the ground when our drought-busting rains began, and a good many of the butterflies dispersed throughout the neighborhood. The bees filled in the slack and I could hear the buzzing way up in the trees.
Then, after a particularly nasty storm (with tornadoes nearby), I woke up to find the driveway and yard littered with a solid covering of persimmon blossoms. Now the bees were all on the ground - probably a couple hundred of them crawling on the ground having a real feast. Even a few other insects joined in the party.
I went back out around noon to check, and the blossoms were already fading and there were only a few dozen bees left. But it was really cool while it lasted. I guess the insects somehow knew they had to gorge themselves because the opportunity would disappear as quickly as it presented itself.
Now the bees and butterflies have migrated to the shrub outside my front door. Those blooms are already half finished, so I'm on a macro kick trying to get shots before the blooms are gone. Clouds, frequent storms, wind and dark gloom have made getting shots with a Non-ISO lens a real challenge, but it's fun to try.
More details can be seen in zoom. Thanks very much for your recent views and comments.

What a great amount of record shots you got here Tex. Fantastic to see and witness, I know your efforts, my macro lens has no stabilization either, not an easy feat. And I agree, the challenge is more rewarding. Too easy these days to have auto pilots on cameras and lenses I have 8 lenses, and just one is IS.

OMG, what a wonderful collage and narrative about something we haven't had around here for eons: bees, butterflies, persimmons, and RAIN! Barring tornadoes, you are so lucky. Say, isn't that an ordinary housefly in that sixth photo? You did mention other insects at the feast.

Wow, look at all those blooms on the ground! Fantastic shots of the visitors, all of them--glad they were able to salvage some goodness from the storm's damages.
