Description
Meet the American Snout Butterfly (Libytheana carinenta).
They are common to much of the southern US, Mexico and South America. They can hang upside down on a twig and become nearly invisible - excellent camouflage. They attract newspaper headlines when they migrate in huge numbers in southern TX. I'm just glad one meandered my way, as I had never seen one before. That long nose certainly made me do a double take!
Detail better in zoom. Thanks very much for your views and comments.

An extraordinary butterfly! I wonder what's the purpose of its long nose ...? These beautiful white flowers make a wonderful contrast to the colors of the subject!

Good heavens, with that long sharp snout, that beauty could punch a hole in the top of a beer can. Stellar capture of a variety of butterfly that I was completely unaware of, Maria.
