Description

KJV translates "his friends". This is surely wrong because the verse refers to Mark 3:31. It is "his family" - as translated in the NIV - led by Mary who seems to think that her first born son became meshugge. I think that the more important reason for Mary and her children to "visit" Jesus was the death of her husband and the necessity to find a bread-earner for her family. Apparently her other sons were still too young to do the job, so Jesus, a carpenter, was the next in line. Hence she wanted to visit him in Capernaum, get the bees out of his bonnet and take him back to Nazareth. Unfortunately (or: fortunately) Jesus did not embark on her attempt, anouncing that his disciples are his family. So Mary and her sons had to stay with Jesus and her sister Salome, the mother of the thunder sons.
