This song will probably be better remembered as a tribute to Lady Di when it was re-written in an 'England's Rose' version.
It's interesting that Bernie Taupin wasn't really a big Monroe fan. He says this song was really more about Fame and how the press and fans treat famous people and what it does to them. Bernie wrote this actually after reading a quote about Janis Joplin.

Neat shot of this thistle plant. I well remember both versions of the song. I've always felt it was more of a reflection of the way Hollywierd and the whole 'celebrity machine' reduces people to a commodity. Sad, really.....
