Description

I took this photograph yesterday, because I was still swimming through the impulses and mood that overcame me prior to writing the story I'd posted just before this shot. There are things cities reveal. I also think I was trying to get into the "head space" of the mysterious character I'd written, an unseen photographer who might have been the city itself: snapping random shots of people, placing them on stickers, and placing those stickers on odd, random bits of municipal infrastructure. I was also thinking about the numerous stickers I've seen, especially since reading Umberto Eco's The Mysterious Flame of Queen Loana. For some reason, the concepts of memory and identity have merged, in my mind, with the concept of street art: stickers that serve as graffiti. I think that, ultimately, this image is simply my take on all of the things swirling through my mind: the capture of a moment, edited and tweaked to look aged, weathered, worn, and a bit dirty. I like how this turned out, and I'll have to admit that it was really fun figuring out just what to do to a normal, mundane, unexciting street scene. As always, thank you for viewing, reading, and commenting, and I hope you're all having a great week.

Interesting what you've done with the capture, it seems as if the city itself is moving.

Smoking while texting, as a cultural thing its one I really can't get my head around. And I've seen people smoking while jogging. Perhaps here the city is trying to get us to think about all the space and energy we waist on empty automobiles. Imagine how a city might feel knowing that so much room has to be provided for things which spend much of their time doing nothing. These beasts sometimes getting better accommodation than many of a city's living inhabitants. Then, when they are finally called into action, they just make the city dirty and unpleasant. And unwelcoming to the other forms of life who want to make their lives there.
