Wow, all these years and I never knew Carrara had a built in render for depth, and all kinds of cool predetermined alpha channels for isolating 3d elements. I knew Bryce had it built in. Anyway stumbled across a carrara thread discussion on multi-pass rendering which I guess is the vocabulary for creating the alpha channels. I always wondered what that was, but didn't touch it. This is definetly going into the lesson plans.
