Description

Captured 4/5/12 at the semi beautiful El Dorado Nature Center in beautiful Long Beach, California. This handsome furry creature, with its subtle colors, patterns and textures, virtually blends into the background, chameleon-like. Have a carefree day.

Well Harry, it's time to return to your gallery...only THIS time, I'm gonna start with your most recent image and move backwards. (A rare occurrence!) I love this shot...because the textures of the squirrel and the ground are really in harmony---as you suggest in your description. This is a wonderfully textured shot. The dappled light/shade of the ground also harmonizes with the light/shade of the squirrel. And I love the position of the squirrel too---bent around, with its body and tail swinging to fill out the frame. A terrific capture of an everyday squirrel, with your signature textures and light. And btw, we have people-friendly squirrels here too---they're so used to handouts, they walk up to you and wait. I've seen them reading the New York Times and asking for loans. I know these squirrels well.) Love this shot!

Great photo! He must be used to people and getting hand-outs or he wouldn't come so close. I fed a raven outside my door yesterday - he came close, but then, suddenly, there was nearly a dozen, but they kept their distance. I suspect the first one recognizes me as living in the building, as the squirrel recognizes people he can get something from. Many animals are good mind readers. Keep up the good work! :-)

Beautiful capture of this fuzzy little critter. We usually see them here more in the traditional grey with a small variation toward golden, but not too often nor too much. The dogs on the other hand, they simply don't care about coloration, they just lose their furry little minds trying to apprehend them. Thankfully, they've all managed to make an escape, though one found itself temporarily confined by each of the two older ones. It took me a little "convincing" to win their release. Hence, they seldom venture into the yard now; and I sort of wish they did, they can be so relaxing to watch. Marvelous photo!

Cute capture. Because of the patterns, ears and details, is there any possibility that this could be some kind of ground squirrel? I'm not very familiar with them as they are very shy and fast out in the country. Good catch!

What a pretty little spotted fellow he is! More brown than our grey squirrels up here, and the spots are something I've not seen at all. Excellent capture!
