Description
The Lockheed P-3 Orion anti-submarine and maritime surveillance aircraft was developed in the 1960's and was used extensively to counter the Soviet submarine threat during the cold war years. It was developed from the existing Lockheed Electra turboprop aircraft and received numerous upgrades over the succeeding years, especially in the avionics and radar surveillance packages. Its "MAD Boom" stinger tail gives the aircraft an easily identifiable profile.
A significant number of countries have used or are still employing the Orion in both military and civilian use. (California uses the P-3 as a firefighter aircraft for instance.)
Lockheed P-3 Orion: Absolutely beautiful model generously shared for free on sharecg by that consummate craftsman, Pedro Caparros. Thank you very much, Pedro, another grand addition to the roster.
Soviet submarine: No details, but I think one of the fine submarines available on sketchup 3dwarehouse.

Wonderful representation and POV !!

Great presentation and nicely staged render, "Steel". My neighbor was a flight engineer on P-3s and had some great stories about the birds he flew and the places he was stationed. He flew out of Moffett Field, NAS here in Northern California, just a couple miles up the road from where I live. The Navy went through some down sizing a number of years ago and the West Coast fleet of P-3s were moved but a number of them still seam to fly in on a regular basis. Pedro looks like he did a great job on this model as usual.

Hey! we're practically neighbors. I'm down in Paso Robles. Just drove by Moffett (sign of the times that they are dismantling the "hangar") a couple of weeks ago. I remember seeing the P-3s there in past times. And yeah, Pedro is the maestro!

The P-3's were real work-horses. Part of why the Navy replaced them is because their air-frames are wearing out. It was costing more and more to keep them in the air.

Indeed, these aircraft are still flying and will continue in many countries. Now, a Spanish P3 assists in the prevention of piracy on the Somali coast. Airbus Military has begun, in Seville, the updating of 9 Brazilian P3 (airframe and avionics). Thank you very much for the compliments. Glad you like my models.

You still have that way with water and making aircraft really look like they are flying.. really nice Bill.

There are two maestros, one who builds great aircraft and one who makes great pictures. :-)
