Description

I have to come clean and say that I have never been into either portraits, or photo-realistic thingamejig. Not my thing. I have a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for artists who pursue that stuff, it takes a hell loads of skill and knowledge to pull it of, but, as I said, it's not me. I just wish instead of the 'wow-I-can't-believe-it's-not-a-photo' type of comment those exceptional works of photo-realism in 3D tend to attract (and this one is most certainly NOT exceptional) we had, dunno, for example 'I-wonder-what-is-he-thinking-she-looks-shy' or 'is-he-asking-her-for-his-phone-number-why-is-he-taking-a-picture-of-her-is-she-his-girfriend' ones that focus on what the image is about and what it tries to convey, rather than how it is done. Tools to put it together should never take the centre-stage from your kitchen shelf when done, regardless how shiny the spanners might be. OK, my pet peeve dealt with, here's the story: for the past 2 years we've been travelling to find a new home, in a new country, since living in UK has been steadily turning to sh*t (the search is still ongoing, that's why you don't see me around here a lot). One day in Perpignan we saw a young woman, like a punk Leslie Caron look-a-like with a shy smile. The phone comes out and the fleeting moment in time gets preserved forever. Is she smiling at the guy snapping her picture with his iPhone? Is she shy? Flirting? Bored? What is she thinking? I don't know. What do you think? Inspired by French movies from the 60's and early 70's and that famous painting living these days in Louvre. Done in DAZ Studio's latest incarnation as DS4.8, BW conversion in Photoshop, as well as the touch-up postwork. All of the flaws in the image are all of my own, and not to be blamed on the tools used.

You may be right as to what fellow artists think about a piece. When a work is as technically brilliant as this one (composition, textures, lighting), it's hard not to compliment your use of "tools". I'm thinking that 3D artists tend to be more focused on technique than say, oil, or any two D media. I know that I tend to only comment on those works that jump out at me, and there are usually very few that hit with emotional impact. That said, I know how I feel when you get a comment that completely misses the point of the work. Perhaps we all should throttle down that right side brain and open the left side a bit more. Thanks for sharing, and maybe opening that left side a bit more. Oh, and as to what she's thinking?.....Maybe just a naturally friendly girl having a pleasant morning. Thx, Rhett
