Description

- Staff Sergeant Lafayette G. Pool, 32nd Armored Regiment. Village of Fromental area (France), July-August 1944. Lafayette G. Pool (July 23, 1919 – May 30, 1991) 3rd Platoon, “I” Company, 32nd Armored Regiment, U.S. 3rd Armored Division Credited with over 1,000 kills, 250 German prisoners of war taken, 12 confirmed tank kills and 258 total armoured vehicle and self-propelled gun kills. All of which took place in a combat career that covered only 81 days in action from 27 June to 15 September 1944 with three different Shermans, an M4A1, and two M4A1(76)Ws all of which bore the nickname "IN THE MOOD", and all of which were eventually shot out from under him. On September 15 his third Sherman was destroyed by an an ambushing Panther. The tank was hit and while Pool was trying to back his damaged Sherman up, the Panther hit it a second time. The second round caught the tank on the edge of a ditch and flipped it over. The same round blew Pool out of the commander's hatch, seriously slashing open one of his legs with a shell splinter. The leg was so badly mangled that it had to be amputated. His life after the war was rather dull. Pool would not return to amateur boxing and he changed several jobs in a few years, until returning to the 3rd Armored Division (being fitted with a prosthesis) to serve as an instructor for recruits. After that, he completed a business college, before finally deciding to take up preaching as a profession. His CO later said of him, "Pool is the tanker of tankers". * The nickname given to Pool by his crew "War Daddy" was used for the fictional commander depicted in the movie Fury (2014 film). * M4A1(76)W model by Ranman38, mods by Flipomucho. * Information obtained from the Internet. --- I'm Sorry, last image deleted by mistake ---

Great render and great information, I saw the movie but did not think there was a historical inspiration for the character, now I'll go look up Poole.
