Description

Some fun starting out with the Stonemason prop "Utopia Labs" from DAZ, but the whole composition was more or less planned from the start. Vue 2015 render, building and character setup in DAZ Studio, custom "conifers/palms" in Onyxtree. Finishing touches in Photoshop. Thanks for viewing, comments etc. welcome and appreciated. Have a nice weekend, Lars

Great everyday living scene. There's certain humor and irony to the alien on the left reading a paper. You'd think paper would not even be being used anymore. Great work.

Thanks, Arthur. It's a pity you can't see the headline on the paper, I've actually made a custom front page with an "article": "Aliens Don't Exist". Of course it's not likely that he'd read a "paper" but as you've spotted it's supposed to be humour :)

Aside from the artistic merit, by viewing this picture I am led to speculate whether this expression of 'utopia' within the image is obtainable. It is interesting (though not a comment on the artist's politics) that part of this supposed idyllic society is to have a servile under-class (in this case, apparently an artificial one. It is nice to see that the life-form to the left of the picture still has a desire for tactile connection with its environment; holding onto a tangible paper rather than relying on some form of direct data-transfer straight into a neural-interface. One could spend some time musing over the socio-politics of this 'ideal' presented in the picture. And that is what, in my opinion, makes it good art. I would also like to pay special attention to the wonderfully exotic, alien botany behind the two women. I think you have thought long and hard about making them look realistic and believable, whilst at the same time obviously from an unknown ecosystem or planet It is a small detail I know, but I like the way the shadows fall across them. If it is the same universal lighting throughout the scene, it is interesting to me how it plays so dramatically differently across the artificial surfaces and the natural ones. This demonstrates the need for variance in a scene to lend a deeper level of credibility. Again, another reason why I admire this artist deeply.

Thanks Huw :) I know you're not too crazy about my character scenes, so this is much appreciated. And, actually I think the use of characters in an environment adds significantly to a picture's narrative potential, thus being less boring than a straight landscape - in my opinion :)
