Description

Ralph had another fox fight at about 8.45pm last night, I let him out for a wee without sending Fritz first who was busy sleeping with my brother's dog Charlie in the lounge. There was no barking or any conflict sounds, but Rosie fetched me to go and look and Ralph was at the bottom of the garden covered in blood and facial wounds. So, I bathed his face and legs, then took him to the out of hours vet, where you can see him lying on the scales as it was more comfy than the floor. We had to wait for a bit as a couple of other patients needed more urgent attention. There was nothing needed stitching, so he had three jabs, ABs, anti inflams and painkiller, and we got home about 10.30 (£165iish) I hope Rosie, Charlie and Fritz enjoyed the nature programme I was about to watch when it happened! Ralph's face is still a bit swollen tonight and one of his puncture wounds is still weeping a little, but otherwise he should recover in a few days. I don't know how his opponent fared.... I haven't found a body! This is fox number four, and I had got complacent as we hadn't had a death for a couple of years. Luckily he didn't lose an eye!

Poor Ralph! (and poor Andrea too...) - No wonder you folks have taken to fox hunting historically! - I am sure that this must happen here in the U.S. too, but even growing-up in rural Ohio with foxes around I never saw foxes not cower from dogs except a few rabid encounters. Are the English foxes know for a special aggressiveness? - Sure hope the poor dear fellow mends-up well...

Sadly, it is Ralph who is the aggressor! He just can't help himself.

Awww darn it all. I am sorry to hear of Ralphs painfully expensive fox encounter of the 4th(?) kind. I hope he recovers quickly.

It is interesting that Ralph only seems to attack other mammals. I haven't heard of him going after birds or the pond dwellers. Good to hear Ralph is on the mend but I do hope the fox is OK.

Oh dear, one of the down sides of having such an attractive nature spot in your garden. Poor Ralphie, his nature just won't allow him to accept these wild critters in "his" territory, it's very hard to go against breeding. And those vet bills are very annoying, I know for a fact. I hope Ralphie doesn't get infection and settles his blood quickly. Too bad foxes can't read, you could post signs back there warning them!

Ohhhhhhh, poor baby!!! I can't imagine having a fox in the back yard, and didn't realize they were so prevalent where you live! So glad that Ralph was not 'seriously' injured and hope he recovers soon!!! Ouch, that was quite a bill to pay! I was letting my 5 Cavvies out one evening and saw an Opossum in the yard. Luckily they were still on the porch and I quickly herded them back indoors or I would have had a worse situation than you have shown here.

He's such a chav, get out of me garden mate. He'll be ok, as I am sure you know Lurcher's are quiet hardy. Give him a chin rub from uncle Ron.

Oh dear that looks very sore. Although foxes walk across my fence I have never seen one in the garden but your garden must have lots of hiding places. Hope Ralphie is feeling a lot better this morn.
