Description


The Lincoln Memorial was built to honor the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln. It is located on the western end of the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The memorial echos a classic Greek Temple and features Yule Marble from Colorado. The dimensions of the memorial are 57.8 m by 36.1 m and it is 30 m tall. The memorial was dedicated in 1922. A great shot Sig and so beautiful at night. Did you ever notice that the states are chiseled across the top - you have to walk around all 4 sides to see them all. A must zoom!

Excellent photo. I have never been to DC, but if I do go now I know to look for the States chiseled aroune the top. It is funny I did not realize that because when I collected coins as a kid I used to find the state name on the tails side of the pennies that featured the Lincoln Memorial, but I did not realize then it was because they actually are a part of the Lincoln Memorial. I guess I thought they did it just to make the coins interesting. Now I finally make the connection...duh. :)
