Description
He was no fool. From the very first, he had known that she was not truly human. There was something about her eyes, and her inordinate beauty, that belied the otherwise lithe lovely figure of mere mortal she bore. Even though that was the only form she ever assumed in his presence. But it did not matter, she had saved his life. Pulled him from the sea, unconscious and half drowned, when his ship had been torn apart by a violent storm. She had loved and cared for him and he was not ungrateful, feeling a slight pang in his heart, knowing without knowing how it was he knew, that she had dwelt alone, or perhaps "apart" was the more apt term, for a long long time, and would be again. Now she was letting him know, in her own quiet way, that it was time for him to go, as she slipped into the water without a word and transformed before his eyes. They were of different worlds - perchance even different times - for all was strange here. Some things, the barbarian sense in those dark corners of his thoughts, only existed in those moments between the dream and the waking, and it was time for him to wake. So he turned, and continued on his way, brooding in his somber thought.

Thanks guys! I really appreciate your comments on this one. I love Howard's works, and Conan in particular. Just tried to do his memory justice for the hours of reading enjoyment his stories have given me over the years. :)
