That Kelsi liked girls was no great secret. It was plain to most anyone who'd watched her pine over her best friend Conni, who for her part remained both startlingly oblivious and happily -- and for Kelsi, frustratingly -- heterosexual. Bailey, however, was another story. For most of her life, Bailey had never shown much interest in anything other than ingratiating herself to authority figures. A few boys had asked her out here and there, but when she turned them down, cheerfully and politely, it was chalked up to sheer indifference.
