if you look to the right side of the web covered hole something can be seen. sort of looks like a pigeon Valley of Fire Nevada

Great shot! Have to give the spider credit for knowing the best place to build its trap! (I think it is another piece of debris that has been caught in the web, I like your idea of the pigeon better however)
