Description

Good news from the front lines.... Looks like the damage control is well in hand, and hasn't been as much of a nightmare as I expected. :-) Everything is back up and running, and things have returned to something closely resembling normal (whatever "normal" may be...). The drive I thought I lost is doing fine - it was just a defective USB cable. The GFTNA files are all safe, and have been backed up, so it's on with the story! I'll resume commenting over the weekend, and the T.N.A. Pinup of the Month for July is almost ready - she'll be up Friday or Saturday. Since it's July, our Pinup Girl is one closely associated with fireworks and things that go boom (frequently unintentional....). Big things sometimes come in small packages.... This photo was taken last Friday afternoon, as Independence Power & Light was trying to figure out where all the damage to the distribution lines was. This is the creek and small wooded area behind my house. You can see the distribution poles and power lines - and the tree laying on the ground with the power lines under it! I sent the Inspire up for a look around, and shot this from just above the treetops. Another example of the practical uses for "drones." The fallen tree also yanked Comcast's cable right out of the splitter on the pole. We finally got power back just before noon on Sunday. Comcast came out Monday, and got our cable/phone/internet back up and running. It wasn't quite as costly as I had feared to replace all the food in our 'fridge and freezers. It came in at slightly under 300 bucks - still a bit of an "ouch!" Hope everyone here in the USA has a great 4th, and all my friends in other countries, have an awesome weekend! Page 18 coming soon!

Great shot! You can hire yourself out to search for hard to find situations like this. Or volunteer of course :) Glad things are better than you thought. That is always a relief when it comes to the dreaded "oh no! I don't think I backed that up and "CrAsH!" At least you got a certain sense of relief. Sorry for the food. Always a bummer to lose Glad the girls are safe and sound, can't wait to see what's next. Ar has Slickie in her sights and almost her lap! Happy 4th!

If this happens twice, the cost of a small generator and a few gallons of gas would be a bargin. (I have one due to hurricanes. The one I got was run for more than 3 weeks after hurricane Charley.

Wonderful capture Rod! a great way to promote the good qualities of a drone. Now that I think about it, this would be a perfect way to see where the zombies are at. Glad that you didn't lose so much, other than the meat/food Have a great 4th

Phew! Glad things turned out better than expected! So, "Texas" chain saw massacre on that tree! Any chance of others falling down for a repeat performance? Massacre them, too. Sad to hear a lot of the food went bad. And insurance doesn't cover such losses. As 62guy says, it may be worth investing in a small generator and some gas. That drone is earning its keep! I immediately saw the tree trunk and the damaged wires. Now for some serious catching up and rendering! The GFTNA may well have use for a drone of their own (ie to spot zombies, as Faemike55 suggests). Keep up the good work! :-) And a HAPPY 4th!

Great to here things are getting back to normal over there... I though that I was going to have to send my girls over and see what the problem was, and knowing them they would had made a bigger mess of things! then again, they may just go anyways... which gives me an Idea!! stay tuned. I can't wait to see the pin-up of the month, and the next page of the TNA... I wondering what rock the baby is?... I hope you have a great 4th weekend...

Welcome back, and congratulations on your salvaging... sometimes patience and regard win over reaction.

Maybe the Power company will put you and your drones on salary! Glad to hear there was no irretrievable damage and that you are not going to have to remortgage the house to buy more food. Hope you have a spectacular 4th.

Most Homeowners policies cover up to $500 of food (with no deductible) for this type of thing. You should check with them.

hope they get you up and going again, Rod, been waiting the next chapter of the awesome gals adventures. looks like a big mess from that storm, i had mentioned in a earlier image how the lighting and noise that we had is about the most fierce i've ever witnessed. was out smoking when i saw two bolts smack each other, big huge bright light and the major BANG!!! so a big fan of your flying camera, you must be a master of handling it..

I asked Rose this ages ago (another life), why do seem to have power cables above ground there. We only have mostly, main line (National Grid) above ground, al else is below, until its near the outlet.. Thus when a tree comes down no break.. Etc.. Of course Grid lines break sometimes but not often.. So why.. In Maine Winter was awful for Ice snapping lines.. Sorry for your great photo.. Well found!!! Good work mate. And pleased lose is not great your end.. Phew! Rob
