Description

We are back from our trip up into the White Mountains of New Hampshire. This photo was taken on our day 3 hike through the Franconia Notch. This little guy was just fluttering on the same flower and not moving off of this flower. I have no idea of the name of the butterfly or flower. Zoom is best for details. I will be catching up over the next few days. Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous favs and comments. They are very much appreciated. Dana

Wonderful capture! I guess we can all assume that this poor guy's days are numbered, if he cannot fly away from danger.

While I was researching butterflies in the spring, I was surprised to learn how short their lives are. You got a beautiful shot of this one, Dana, those flowers are a wonderful contrast for the butterfly.

I think this guy might be a white-banded black moth Rheumaptera subhastata. You got a great shot of him.

Thank you Katherine - I googled and you are 100% correct. S/he was not far from Echo Lake so that also matches. Thank You Again! D

What a beautiful photo, Dana! I also love the flowers, grass and background, sure zoom is a must. How great Katherine knew the name of the battered moth. We have a lot of these flowers in our garden, and comes the name of the flower (picked from Wikepedia :)): Pilosella aurantiaca (fox-and-cubs, orange hawkweed,[2]:208 tawny hawkweed, devil's paintbrush, grim-the-collier) is a perennial flowering plant in the daisy family Asteraceae native to alpine regions of central and southern Europe, where it is protected in several regions. About the photo-challenge: It's just for fun, not for winning something, and I like that very much. It would be great as you have the time to participate too, my friend Clive each month picks another item, and here is the link where you can read and see all about it. http://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/?thread_id=2891536#msg4212447

Fantastic details and colors. The title fits perfectly, it's a wonder that the butterfly still can fly.

Fantastic capture, he looks like the tip of one of his wings is gone so that maybe why he did not fly off, poor thing, these are so pretty but so delicate, it a wonder they last at all.

Really feel sorry for the butterfly. Would have been seriously tempted to offer him some kind of refuge, maybe let him stay in my bedroom with a small dish of water nearby and let him pass away in peace. Lovely capture, Dana!
