Nice photo of it. It looks like the core of a volcano with the cone eroded away. I wonder what the earth's crust looks underneath the ground level. This was a really edifying image. Keep up the good work. :-) May I assume more photos of this in the future?

An incredible view of this amazing formation - great shot, Richard! I think T Rex is correct on how it was formed. If we get to the Black Hills this fall, we're going to visit this. It's not that far from there..
