In case your seeing me post one of these for the first time, this is Mechanical Surrealism, its not supposed to be functional, its just meant to look outrageous.

Actually Early '16 and '15 Harley motors have intake springs exposed, and so did multiple aircraft engines like the WO Bentley Rotary and the Gnome Monosoupape . That's where I got that idea
