Description
I snapped this last night on the way back from a pint last night. At this point the canal passes underneath the M5 Motorway. The canal is very shallow here and is bottomed out with concrete. While I was snapping these Swans I caught sight of a huge splash out of the corner of my eye. Thinking there must be some big fish in the water I stopped a while to observe. I saw no big fish, just dozens and dozens of tiny dark little fish, kind of minnow size I would guess. I was still looking for whatever I thought was large enough to cause the big splash I had seen when I suddenly saw a whole bunch of little spashes as a large number of these little fishes leapt out of the water all at once. I quickly figured out why when I saw multitudes of gnats hovering over the water. I must I have seen a bunch of the critters catching their evening meal and thought they were one big one. I'll post some more photos in the next few days.

I love letting the local swans here suck on my finger!

Beautiful birds, and a great shot. That's a fascinating story about the fish, too.

Love these birds. We had a nesting pair on the pond. I was always amazed that they even swam in the cold Atlantic. I really like the dreamy quality of this image.
