Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!Â
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper! Â
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

It looks like you had a lot of creative fun with the ceramics. It is kind of you to pass along the materials you no longer need.

Great mask! You are certainly multi-talented. Very generous of you to donate your materials to the potter. Now you've made room for a new hobby? :)

You never told me you were related to Edvard Munch. I wish I had known you in your prime. I would have been a loyal and constant customer.

How exciting to get rid of something you no longer want, and to have someone take it who is happy to get it! :) I'm with you on the books ... just because something fascinated me when I was 30, that doesn't mean I have to continue reading about it when I'm 80. You are a woman after my own heart. Love the mask. :) The hands are especially wonderful!

Andrea, I'm only back for a couple of comments today, but I'll be back for a 'marathon' session soon. I just want to say hello right now, and so have the difficult task picking a couple of images from the many you've posted in the last month or so. (I've seen them all.) How could I not comment on this? First, when you wrote "1280C," I mis-read it as "1280 BC" and thought---ok, you talk about getting older, but you DEFINITELY weren't around THAT long ago! (If so, applause, applause: You've held up REMARKABLY well...) I just love this. I like Mark's comment about Edvard Munch. Yes, it reminds one of his "scream". But this is all you, the wonderful stylized knuckles (a few deep gouges), the deep-cut nails, the typical almost Oceanic eyes (with the deep-set inner circles surrounded by the higher-set outer circles...by "Oceanic," I mean their many styles of masks and sculptures). The way the expression takes over the whole face. The ultra broad nostrils---you've caricatured the human form in many ways over the years, and it's uniquely yours, and wonderfully sharp and expressive. And I love how the hands grow out of that long open jawbone. You shot it at a fine angle too---the off-center allows us to see the high relief of your sculpture; and your light brings out the varying hues of your stone work. A terrific piece, masterful. Denise referred to this as your "early work," but I imagine if you did masks today, you'd have many of these traits, however transformed. And I agree with her on you being a prodigy. How can anyone not see what a master mask and sculpture maker you are?
