Description

I am guessing, but I did check the net and a website shows Venus and Jupiter close to the moon during evening. this is very large so zoom if you like I took last night free hand using a wall to brace myself. there are two red objects also to the very top and to the far right. I did not see them last night. the right never moved in several shots, while I am not sure about the top

What do I know, but Venus sounds a bit unlikely to me, as it's the morning / evening star. For being close to the sun, it's visible when going upfront (morning) or lags behind (evening) but will be gone at full daylight, and at full night as well. According to various astronomy pages, Jupiter is quite close to the sun (visualy) as well nowadays and must be hard to capture in the dark that is suggested in the picture. According to the net, Venus and Jupiter are till mid July visible at sunset in Western direction. Planets that are well visible are Saturn (evening / early night, clsing in to the Moon for the next week), Uranus and Neptune (all night). have fun anyway.

Saturday, July 18, dusk The moon will be close to Venus just after sunset. Venus will appear in binoculars as a tiny crescent just north of the crescent moon http://www.space.com/16149-night-sky.html thanks for your help

Really cool photo of this conjunction, Richard! I meant to get out and at least see it, but as cloudy as it's been, there's not much to see here! I think you missed Pluto, though, but NASA got some cool shots! LOL
