I've been away from your gallery a long time, but I've never forgotten the powerful impact of your work. This woman is painted with such sensitivity to inwardness, and to privacy. It's a private portrait---the woman is behind an emotional veil, she is lost in herself---and yet she seems to be doing it in front of the world. ("public solitude," as Stanislavsky theater teachers call it.) And you've captured a pure, immersed posture, use of hands, arms, etc. Even her lips express privacy: they're motionless and closed---closed in more ways than one. Yet there is great beauty in her too, inner beauty. And I love the rushing background, and the almost abstracted neck and arms and shoulders. Wonderful work on her hair too...A simple yet very communicative portrait.
