Description
I don't know exactly what kind of mollusks these are, but I was fascinated by the way those shapes on their shells formed a pattern in which they kept getting smaller & smaller, the way fractal patterns do. Taken at Asilomar Beach in Pacific Grove. A few more from Asilomar in the next couple of days & then onto another subject...

They are a species of Goose Barnacles, I think . But I just LOVE your photo!

Yes, goose barnacles. Several hundred years ago it was thought that barnacle geese "hatched" from these ... hence the name. (I looked it up. Quite interesting!) Aside from all that, a terrific shot. Much better than anything I saw when I Googled goose barnacle images.
