An elephant traffic jam ... by KarmaSong

One of the most unexpected and joyful memories of my visit to Rajasthan was the chance to ride an elephant up the hill to the main entrance to the Amber fort, a massive and impressive white fortress/palace built over 420 years ago, at a dozen kms from Jaipur. The elephants are decorated with traditional painted patterns and effortlessly transport visitors up the steep slope to the fort. It takes approximately 20-30 minutes (depending on elephant traffic!) for the elephant to slowly trudge up the hillside to the main courtyard...Enough to fancy yourself back to your own childhood, in a different world with a different history and atmosphere, that of the times of the Rajas of India ...
Thank you so much for your visits and nice comments on my previous sunset picture.Have a nice week!... Please zoom in for greater overall impression!

Very colourful scene! My grannie saw this sort of thing when she lived in India (before the First War).

An interesting photo from a country in which everything is so different. The title fits perfectly with this scene, there's really a lot of elephant traffic. A fantastic shot, great POV and I like the colors and the light.

Jean-Luc, allow me to say that I am very much envious and impressed with this presentation. I think it is wonderful that you had the rare opportunity to ride an elephant and experience this historic place. I certainly hope you have more photos of this place to share with us soon.

Never rode an elephant before. Not sure if I'd like to try! Must have been a real exciting experience for you!
I'd presume you know of the elephant-headed god Ganesh? :)
