Description

Continuation of the Hampton Beach 15th annual Sand Sculpture competition. The title of this sculpture is Sucker Punch and the judges awarded Abe Waterman 4th place for this sculpture. Abe is from Prince Edward Island and considers himself to be the rudest person in the Canadian Maritimes. The subject is a frustrated taxpayer punching an IRS tax agent. Two separate POVs so you can enjoy the power of the punch and size of his fist. Yes, it is only sand and water and thoroughly compacted. Each sculptor is supplied with 10 tons of sand. Hampton Beach has round grains of sand from the pounding waves over thousands of years. Flat grain sand is brought in because it compacts and retains water better than round sand grains and will offer a much more stable and longer lasting sculpture. The sand comes from a New Hampshire quarry which boasts having some of the best sculpting sand in the world. Info from an unidentified Hampton Beach Sandman. More information in my next post. Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous favs and comments. They are very much appreciated. Dana

Nobody enjoys paying taxes, but I disagree with the angry politics of this piece - though it is visually clever. And I like the way you've creatively joined the two photos, Dana...

Wow, great shots Dana! It has always amazed me what people can do with sand and water! That was interesting to read about round sand grains and flat sand grains! Do you know where the quarry the sand comes from is? Mike wants to visit Hampton this Saturday, so maybe we'll get to see some of these if they are still around!

The sand expert that I talked to didn't mention where the quarry was.

Well, that's a heck of a sculpture! LOL I love it! Great shot and interesting information. I was wondering if they used a special sand for this - beach sand just doesn't seem like it would stick together that well.
