Description
This "hornet nest", is the first I have seen here EVER....
...aerial that is. This particular wasp usually finds a place in the ground and are generally called "yellow jackets", about the size of a house fly with a nasty disposition.
Fortunately, this magnolia tree is not on my property and doesn't pose a threat to man or beast unless disturbed, and I have no intention.

UGH!! This is what we had nesting in the ceiling of our bedroom. They do have a nasty disposition, and they bite as well as sting. They grab with their mandibles, and hold on while they sting you. Trust me on this.... I still have a red spot where one of the little &^%#$^&& nailed me. My wife got stung also. The guy from Orkin sprayed some kind of powder into the hole in the ceiling, which was pretty effective. They were all dead in a few minutes. He found the nest in the ceiling and said it would attract more of them if we left it there. I removed it the next day. I don't mind them when they stay outside - but not in the bedroom! Cool shot of this nest! Just don't get too close! :-P
