Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper!
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

Great dedication to Chip! that's a great idea about how to keep the wasps and other critters away when eating outside Great capture

What a clever idea to keep the wasps away from your end of the table while dining outdoors ! Definitely am not a insect lover ! I have always been afraid of bees and in particular wasps-- just knowing their stingers are sharp and leave a nasty bite ! Should have known waving them off is a sure sign of attracting attention ! What a beautiful picture and dedication to Chip.. Thanks for sharing Andrea.

I learned a long time ago to stand still and watch with amusement as everyone around me runs around in a panic. Its sort of like the logic found in an old joke; "You can't outrun that bear!" "I don't have to outrun the bear. I just have to outrun you." Chip definitely has a warm spot for anything that creeps, crawls or flies. This is a wonderful birthday gift for him.

Holy cow, this is a spectacular photo...maybe I need to add a Tizzy3 to my kit for closeups/macros. Oh, and Happy Birthday Chip!!!

Critters tend to love me more than I love them. Maybe I smell good ... I don't know. I've tried putting meat elsewhere on the table, but they still congregate around my plate and want to hang out near me. I don't mind them at all at even a short distance, but somehow when I show up they have no sense of personal space! LOL! This is a superb photograph. Loads of detail, terrific pose, good stuff. Chip will love it! :)

After having been stung by a swarm of wasps I can't say they are a favorite of mine, I was using a Strimmer when the sky went dark and the stinging started I had to drop and run they followed for a considerable distance.
