Description
Our grandson wanted to stop in San Francisco on our way home from Monterey, so after driving up & down some of the larger hills, we headed for the Palace Of Fine Arts. It was originally built for the Panama-Pacific Exposition of 1915 & is one of my favorite spots in the city...

Wow, a wonderful place! I never saw this before.

A beautiful construction in pink concrete, it's all that remains of that exhibition. Nearby is a long building housing an Exploratorium. This is a classic photo of the palace, with the lagoon around the rotunda. The sun/shadows bring out the reliefs below the roof. Very nice. Keep up the good work. :-)

Actually, the Exploratorium is no longer there - it moved to a new location a while back...

Beautiful in every way. Much better capture of the Palace than I ever got back in 1989.

I Am Thoroughly Jealous! I've never been there, although it's been on my list for years. San Francisco isn't conducive to a motorhome trip, so it will have to wait for one of our "post-dog" city excursions. What a fabulous bit of history and architecture!

Outstanding capture and color - one of my favorite spots and someplace I have some 40 year old slides I should check out!

It's such a beautiful structure; I used to date a radio personality who lived near there (in 1989, the time of the Big Earthquake), and that whole area took a real beating. There were parts of it that were fenced in to keep masonry from falling on people. I'm glad it's mostly survived.
