Description

I am sad to share this picture. As you know i shared a pair of Egyptian geese with seven goslings. There is only one surviving gosling left. I did some research on wikipedia. Apparently is the maximum eggs that they lay eight. So they did well for seven goslings to hatch, but sadly only one survived. God bless.

That's why they lay so many eggs, so that at least one or two will survive. The others? Lunch for predators (they have to live, too). But, ducks have a problem with father duck - he tends to eat the little ones, either to maintain his alpha position, or to reduce the number of offspring (taking the weakest ones). If such didn't happen, the earth would be over run by ducks, geese, and other animals that have large litters. Sad, but true. As for your photo, very good. The irises in their eyes are clearly seen. Can't get better than this. Keep up the good work. And keep us updated about the little one! :-)

A sad shame but nature has to sort it all out.

A beautiful shot; it's like that here too, so sad to see the few remaining from all the hatches.

The reason that some animals produce so many young, hoping just a few survive the food chain. Hope this one makes it!
