Description

He certainly was. That's why it took forever to find a photo of him. Usually it's the real "characters" that get all the photo ops. Licky moved on July 6, 2015 about 6:15 PM. He had been fighting an insulinoma for several years and held out very well passing on a the ripe old ferret age of 7 1/2 years old. One characteristic of Licky was that he rarely found anything edible that he did not like. Not finicky like some of the crew, and he had a decided preference for snacking on the cats' goodies. Quiet? Yes, in his later years. He was one of the most playful and cutest (he knew how to work that for treats) critters we've had. He was not too thrilled with the GD Puthycats, but would pounce on them from time to time when the action was really getting on. While looking thru all the ferret pictures I noted something else: no matter how much they are little personalities, the little buggers do tend to look an awful lot alike! In fact that is how we got Licky: he looked pretty much identical to Niles who died unexpectedly and Mrs. W. met L at a ferret show: they attached to each other immediately. If you are familiar with the Dragons of Pern... both were impressed. I was more impressed with Licky's idiot brother: Rubbish. I've always had a soft spot for albino's... underdogs of adoption. Well, time to say bye for now. I have a feeling we will meet again. That should be interesting.... I don't plan to have any treats with me. Thank you for viewing.

Aw, weesel, I'm so sorry for your loss. Licky sure looks the alert and lively fellow ferrets are reputed to be. As you say, old photo. But that look in his eye - you've captured it beautifully. I was seriously considering ferrets, but being very lively, expensive, and using their teeth a lot (even on fingers), I finally opted for 3 rats (all now in rat heaven), which I have not regretted. I now have had Kitty for 2 years - she's calmer now but still uses teeth and claws at times. I still miss my ratties, though. I suspect that when you can't stand the lack of ferrets at home you'll be getting a few more. Personalities? All animals have one. My 3 ratties were 3 completely different fellows. Keep on posting - I'm glad to see them. :-) PS - with animals living so long in human care, they wind up with diseases they'd not live long enough to get in nature. I read of a barn owl who lived to 21 years and died of liver cancer. In nature they live about 7 years. See "Wesley The Owl" by Stacey O'Brien.

He lived in a house of love and joy! He got to live in an environment that the wild ones could even dream about. As for the meeting and not having any treats, even the Supreme Being would look at you and say, "Are you Flippin' NUTS?" ;-} Beautiful capture I'm sorry for your loss my friend. You know where you will see them again...
